Nordic walking

Nordic walking uses poles to enhance the effects of ordinary walking and is suitable for all levels

  • Total body work out, using 90% of your skeletal muscles.
  • Burns up to 46% more calories than ordinary walking
  • Tones the upper and lower body at the same time
  • Great for the heart and lungs
  • Reduced pressure on the knees and other joints
  • Ideal for neck, shoulder and back problems.
  • Chat as you walk, very sociable
  • No need to wear special exercise clothing just comfortable training or walking shoes.

Using more muscles and doing more exercise, the effort is spread across your whole body. Nordic Walking can actually feel easier and less tiring than normal walking!

We have 8 weeks of walks this half term, Then it’s Christmas.

Wednesday evening is included for this term. It will be a dark, street lit walk. It’s an experiment because I can’t do many Saturday mornings at the moment.

The timetable looks very repetitive this time. We do have a choice of routes from each location. If the footpaths stay dry we can get out on a few. I am hopeful for good weather, however most walks now are likely to be muddy on at least part of the route. Please wear suitable footwear and and clothes.

During the last week or so of walks I will arrange a Christmas coffee stop.

If you have a favourite cafe with a good walk near by let me know.

We have a new cafe opened next to the car park at Devoran I will be trying it out soon.
